Old and new faces

Introducing your committee for the coming season. Some old faces but also some new and some that have changed roles.
Committee Lineup 2022/23
Amy Bartlett
Role: Fixtures and Umpire Secretary
Team: Moss Park 3s
Favorite position: Impact sub… just kidding somewhere in the back line
Why I love Moss Park: Having such wonderful teammates and the supportive environment in the club. I joined moss park after half a bottle of Prosecco with Hatty in between lockdowns where she said if you join the team you’ll be more social and more active. I’ve not looked back since. It’s an absolute pleasure being part of the club. It’s my second year on the committee and it’s my job to find us 2 umpires and book the pitch for each home match. We are always looking for volunteers to umpire/do the course so please let us know if that interests you.
Julie Simcock
Role: Joint Social Secretary
Team: Moss Park 3s
Favorite position: Defensive back line
Why I love Moss Park: I love the camaraderie and laughs we have as a team. Everyone is so lovely and welcoming, and so full of encouragement and support. I'm not the most athletic person, and my little legs that don't run fast are not a secret on the team. But I have so much fun exercising, increasing my fitness and growing confidence in myself, whilst also having the space to play to my strengths. This is why you'll currently find me on the defensive back line, not necessarily always chasing my marks right up the field but holding the fort formidably at the back, ready to take on the breakaways.
Sophie Frankland-Slater
Role: 2nd Team Captain
Team: Moss Park 2s
Favorite position: Centre forward
Why I love Moss Park: Played for Moss Park on and off since I was 16 (so quite a long time). New to the role so please tell me if I get it wrong. Apologies if I hit you in the knees, my hit isn’t always accurate! Oh and please feel free to shout at my five year old if she’s too wild on the pitch side!
Eleanor Michie
Role: 3rd Team Captain and Club Secretary
Team: Moss Park 3s
Favorite position: Right midfield
Why I love Moss Park: It's such a friendly supportive club full of the loveliest people! Not only do you get to play hockey but it's a fun way to keep up fitness. We organise plenty of socials and outdoor hikes/cycles especially during the summer months which is great for keeping in touch off season. I have made some wonderful friends and it was a real lifeline during Covid lockdowns. No matter what level of hockey you play, we always love to have new members.
Charlotte Doughty
Role: Treasurer and Covid Officer
Team: Moss Park 2s
Favorite position: Goalkeeper
Why I love Moss Park: I’ve been at Moss Park for nearly a decade, treasurer for the last 4 seasons and covid officer for the last 2. Come find me for any questions about subs or match fees. A word of warning about Moss Park it is the “Hotel California” of hockey clubs-nobody ever leaves ??
Jos Rostron
Role: Welfare Officer
Team: Moss Park 1s
Favorite position: Defender
Why I love Moss Park: I have been playing at Moss for almost 20years and I am the Club Welfare Officer. This role came about to support our younger members (under 18s) to ensure their safety and wellbeing, and to enable them to enjoy their involvement in hockey in a welcoming environment.
However, as part of this role, I believe that it is essential to create and contribute to a culture and environment within our club that allows all members to feel included and safe; an environment that allows us all to flourish. Please feel free to contact me if ever you need any help or support.
Come on The Moss!
Rachael Melvin
Role: Club Captain
Team: Moss Park 3s
Favorite position: Goalkeeper
Why I love Moss Park: I showed up for my first game with Moss Park after not playing for over 5 years, and immediately felt welcome. Being part of Moss Park means that you are surrounded by the kindest and friendliest group of people, who are also seriously impressive with a range of talents and interests - it's been said more than once before that Moss Park could run a island! As club captain feel free to contact me about anything, although being new to the role this year (having previously been 3s captain) there's a good chance I'd need to ask Charlotte or Amy or Eleanor before giving an answer! One thing I can say for certain is that I'm proud to be part of our hockey community.
Ellie Freer
Role: 1st Team Captain
Team: Moss Park 1s
Favorite position: Forward
Why I love Moss Park: My mum has been a player for Moss Park for going on 30 years, so I’ve been around the club all my life. I’ve gone from watching on the side-lines buried in coats as a kid, to captaining our 1st team and everything in-between along the way.
So l can say from personal experience that no matter what role you have at this club, which team you play for, or how often you’re around, everyone is supported and valued at every level. We’re a big family at Moss, and I can’t think of a better group of women to spend my Tuesday evenings and Saturdays with ?
Emily Blacknell
Role: Social Media Secretary
Team: Moss Park 3s
Favorite position: Defending Mid-Field
Why I love Moss Park: As a Southerner who was a newbie to the North, Moss Park became my home away from home in 2019. The most welcoming bunch of people who are always up for a good laugh and a good game! With so much going on (including summer hikes, wild swimming and bike rides) Moss Park is it’s own little community all year round. The club strives for group and individual development in all areas of our members’ lives!
Katie Barnby
Role: Joint Social Secretary
Team: Moss Park 3s
Favorite position: Anywhere in midfield or defense
Why I love Moss Park:
I moved up to Manchester for work and didn't really know many people in this neck of the woods. I was furloughed for the vast majority of the pandemic and really fancied doing something different to take advantage of my newly found spare time. Moss Park was extremely local to me, so it seemed like a fantastic opportunity to meet new people and of course get a bit of exercise and fitness into my routine. I was nervous about joining having not played hockey since I was at school, but I need not have been. In fact, I would say for me it was the best thing to have come out of the last couple of chaotic years we've had! Everyone was so welcoming and having been at the club for nearly 2 years now I've made such a fantastic group of friends and feel extremely at home! I have absolutely no regrets about joining and I would urge anyone to come along and see what we're about!
Eilidh Waddell
Role: 2nd Team Captain (joint)
I’ve been 2s captain for the last few seasons and loved it but work committed especially after Christmas will make this an impossibility so I will be helping Sophie bed in then letting her take over when she feels happy. I will continue to play as work permits.
