Moss Park 1s continued their winning ways by notching another three points against a robust Didsbury Greys team in the driving rain.
Right from the off, Moss took the game to Greys but were frustrated by some sharp saves by Didsbury’s keeper. Breaking down Grey’s defence was proving a testing challenge until joint players’ player of the match, Kate Stewart, fired an unstoppable strike from a penalty corner.
The second half continued in a similar vein. There was some determined play by Moss but they just could not capitalise on the possession and chances that were created. One nil is always potentially a vulnerable position to be in, especially as time was ticking on, but our defence kept their concentration and responded resolutely to any Didsbury attack. Joint players’ players Lauren Greer was outstanding in pushing forward but also regaining possession and she led the way in surging the attacks forward.
Moss’ second goal came with four minutes to go. Within seconds of coming on, Ellie Purnell managed to get herself up with play, in position and with her first touch hit the net after fine work from India Agravat. How’s that for an impact substitution!
Congratulations to India who was awarded opposition player of the match and Umpires’ player of the match, not forgetting her Dick of the Day award for soaking her dad with her umbrella! She shares that with Lucy Derby, who despite being taken out by a Didsbury player, was accused of lying down on the job and for suggesting the team could shelter from the rain in the dugout with half a roof!
Three points and a clean sheet and the team continues to rise up the table. Come on the Moss!
