The sun shone for the Moss today, metaphorically & in reality as MP3s smashed their way to win 3-0 against a fit, youthful Wigan 2s side. The 3 points secured top place & promotion....and we still have a game in hand. Wigan put up a brave persistent battle today but we REALLY wanted to win. There were no nerves from MP3s despite the importance of the match. Wigan pressure was high on our defence at the start but then something suddenly clicked, our fortunes changed & we pushed ahead 1-0 at halftime courtesy of Grace Brown, she scores again off their right hand post, well done Gracie top goal scorer, assist from Laura Van Hoof.
Two more goals came in the 2nd half Hoofy (Laura) nailed a lovely one and goal machine Michelle Lanaway fought hard to take the other with an assist from new junior Ros, who so nearly scored herself on a fabulous debut. Everyone had a good game today from front to back, keeper Charlotte Doughty on her 3rd match of the weekend finally got a clean sheet, defence which got most of the POD votes with a tied award to Julia Brown & Emily Blacknell, part of a resolute defence. A defence that has given away the fewest goals in Div 4, something the whole team should be proud of. BOD went to Lesley Ginsburg who got her 1st ever green card & wore the banana hat with aplomb. Opposition POD went to Hoofy for excellent all round play & creativity, umpire’s POD went to Lisa ‘Doc’ Spencer for a commanding performance in midfield.
The match day ended with lots of lovely treats in our ‘pavilion ‘ provided by many of our excellent bakers; Wigan were happy to join us. Coach Riley gave us a fabulous team talk. So Mossers- we did it! We have promotion but it hasn’t come without great support across the club, thank you Moss Park. Special mention to our excellent coaches Dave & Rob all season pushing us on. We have had brilliant support from a core of 2s players, willing to double up even asking to, you know who you are. For our part, our team has consistently attended training & it shows. Some key 3s players weren’t with us today but this win is shared with them. We got here with a consistent, whole team, season long effort. Finally we must acknowledge our captain Marvel, Rachael Melvin, Marvellous to us she has led us with purpose, skill commitment & humour (even if she does forget the coffee or doesn’t know what a pavilion is!). Well done Rach, a great season, thank you from all of us.
Come on the Moss!
